About the therapist

Hi, I'm Davially - but, you can also call me Velly

I was born on the beautiful Caribbean island of Curaçao and raised in both the Netherlands and Bonaire. In 2016, I moved to Louisiana, where I continued building my life, education, and career. My Caribbean and Dutch roots, along with my experience of adapting to life in the United States, have deeply shaped who I am and how I connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds. I understand what it can feel like to navigate different cultures, identities, expectations, and seasons of life while still trying to remain connected to who you truly are.

I am a wife, mother, therapist, lifelong learner, and someone who genuinely believes in the power of personal growth. I am also a Christian, and my faith is an important foundation in my life. It shapes the way I strive to show up in the world; with compassion, humility, grace, and a commitment to meeting people without judgment.

I also recognize that some people have experienced Christian spaces as judgmental, rejecting, or excluding toward certain individuals or communities. That is not the approach I believe in or bring into my work. My faith calls me to lead with love, respect, and compassion for people from all walks of life, regardless of their identity, background, beliefs, relationships, or experiences.

While my faith informs who I am as a person, Christianity does not automatically become part of your therapy.Your therapy is about you. Clients of all faiths, spiritual backgrounds, and those who do not identify with a faith are welcomed and respected in my practice.

Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy home and DIY projects, trying new recipes, traveling, and spending meaningful time with my family.

Professional Background

Education

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
I am currently completing my Ph.D. in Systemic Therapy (Fall ‘26) at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

My doctoral research explores the code-switching experiences of Black Marriage and Family Therapy trainees, with a particular focus on authenticity, professionalism, culture, and identity within clinical training environments.
Experience

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #1480) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC #9317) in Louisiana. I work with adolescents ages 15 and older, adults, couples, and families.
My experience includes helping clients navigate anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, identity concerns, family conflict, and the emotional impact of feeling responsible for everyone around them.
Approach

I tailor therapy to the individual rather than expecting the individual to fit one specific therapeutic model. Depending on your needs, our work may include exploring past experiences, recognizing patterns, building coping and communication skills, strengthening emotional awareness, and identifying practical steps toward change.
My work is collaborative, relational, culturally responsive and trauma-informed. I value honest conversations and strive to balance warmth with gentle challenges that support growth.
